Welcome!  If this is your first visit to our blog, please read our Intro post here.  To date we have written posts about all known members of the first, second, and third generations of descendants of William Loney of Co Longford, Ireland, their spouses, and their spouses’ families.

If you are looking for information on someone in particular, you can use the “Search” feature in the upper right hand corner of this page.

We hope that the information you find here will be helpful to you in your genealogical research, lead you to an “aha” moment, or help you find a missing ancestor or branch of your family tree.  And, we have loved hearing from everyone who has contacted us.

While we make every effort to ensure that what we post is accurate (based on source documents or “reliable” family information), we would be silly to think that we haven’t made any mistakes.  If you run across one, please, please, please let us know so we can correct it.

If you are planning a trip to Ireland, visit our section on What to do in Ireland.  It provides a brief overview of where you might go and what you might do if you are interested in genealogical research on the Loney Family.

This is the third in our series of posts on the children of Stephen Alexander Cunningham, and his wife, Maria Ferrier (the grandchildren of John Cunningham and Susannah West).

Last time we wrote about their son, Stephen Wilfred Cunningham and his wife, Lavina Margaret Howlet.

Today’s post is about their third child, Myrtle Iva Cunningham. Myrtle was born 30 Jan, 1895 in East Luther, Dufferin Co, Ontario.

Later, her marriage affidavit will give the more precise birth location of Monticello. Today Monticello is described as a “dispersed rural area in East Luther”.

Also note that her birth record gives her name as Iva Myrtle, but all subsequent records we’ve found list her first name as Myrtle.

On 1 Dec, 1915, Myrtle married John Ornel McPherson in East Luther.  Their marriage records include their signatures.

John was the son of William James McPherson and Elizabeth Adaline Fawcett.  He was born 9 July, 1891 in Grand Valley, Dufferin Co.  Myrtle and John’s marriage documents give his occupation as farmer.

John served as a Master of the Grand Valley Orange Lodge.  He is listed as a Past Master in the article below.  The term Past Master is given to someone who has had a full year as a Master of his lodge.

John and Myrtle had two known children, William Stephen McPherson, born 1920 and Myrtle Lois McPherson born 1929.  Sadly, both died at about age 35 – William in 1955 and Myrtle in 1964.

Myrtle Iva (Cunningham) McPherson died 24 Oct, 1961 in Orangeville, Dufferin Co at age 66. John McPherson died 30 Aug, 1972 in Shelburne, Dufferin Co at age 81. They are buried with their children in Union Cemetery, Grand Valley.

This is the second in our series of posts on the children of Stephen Alexander Cunningham, and his wife, Maria Ferrier.  Their children are the grandchildren of John Cunningham and Susannah West

A few weeks back we wrote about their first child, John James Cunningham and his wife, Mildred Honeybourn.

Today’s post is about Stephen and Maria’s second child, Stephen Wilfred Cunningham.  He was born 9 Dec, 1892 in East Luther, Dufferin Co.

In the 1911 census Stephen was living with his family on S 1/2 Lot 27 Concession 8 East Luther.  His occupation is listed as farmer.

Prior to 1917, Stephen moved to Toronto, York Co.

On 28 Feb, 1917, Stephen married Lavina Margaret Howlet/Howlett in Toronto.  He was living at 64 Brookfield St at the time and working as a Motorman.

Lavina was living at 13 Sorauren Ave in Toronto and doing office work.  Their two residences were only about five minutes apart.

In the 1921 census, Stephen, Lavina, and their one-year-old son, Roy, were living with Stephen’s mother, Maria at 64 Brookfield Ave in Toronto.  This is where Stephen was living when he married Lavina. Stephen, who is listed as Wilfred, was working as a carpenter.  His father had died the year before.

Note: Stephen and Lavina’s son Roy’s full name may have been Wilfred Roy Cunningham.  His birthdate may have been 25 Apr, 1920.

Lavina was born 6 Jun, 1895 in Proton, Grey Co, Ontario.  She was the daughter of Manoah Howlet/Howlett and Sarah Hobson.  Note her original birth certificate gave her name as Margaret.  The record was altered in 1956 to add Lavina (and Howlett).

Lavina’s father was a farmer and at the time of her birth, the family lived on Lot 38, Conc 1 in Proton.

This photo below from the early 1900s shows Lavina (botton) with her sister, Eliza Jane Howlett, and their paternal grandparents William Howlett and Jane Houghan.

As with Stephen’s older brother John and his wife Mildred, it was difficult to find much information on Stephen and Lavina

Stephen may have died 24 October, 1970 and Lavina may have died in 1991 in Toronto.
